“Royal Ancestry: A Study in Colonial & Medieval Families,” Douglas Richardson (2013):
“ROBERT III DE VITRÉ, seigneur of Vitré, and, in right of his wife, of Cheveley, Cambridgeshire, born about 1120. He married before 1 April 1161 (date of charter) EMMA DE DINAN, widow of Hugues V d'Alluye, and daughter of Alain de Dinan, Chev., seigneur of Bécherel and Lehon, by Agnorie, daughter of Stephen (or Étienne), Count of Brittany, lord of Richmond [see RICHMOND 5 for her ancestry]. Her maritagium included the manor of Cheveley, Cambridgeshire. They had five sons, André [II] [seigneur of Vitré], Alain [seigneur of Dinan], Robert [Precentor of Paris], Joscelin, and Martin, and two daughters, Maud and Eleanor. He succeeded his father about 1155. ROBERT III DE VITRÉ died in 1173, and was buried in Savigny Abbey. Sometime before 1196, his widow, Emma, and her son, Robert de Vitré, were in possession of the manor of Burton by Thigden (or Burton Plessy) [in Burton Latimer], Northamptonshire, formerly held by her brother, Roland de Dinan; this manor escheated to the crown in 1196. His widow, Emma, was living in 1205, and died 18 December, before 1209.

Note: ANDRE [II] de Vitré (before 1155-9 Jun 1210). "Robertus dominus Vitreii" donated property to Sauvigny, with the consent of "Andrea filio meo et Emma uxore mea", for the souls of “...fratris mei Andreæ”, by charter dated 28 Mar 1160[881].
Robert of Torigny records the death in 1173 of "Robertus de Vitreio" and the succession of "filius suus Andreas natus ex sorore Rolandi de Dinan"[882]. Seigneur de Vitré. "Andreas de Vitreio" donated property to Sauvigny, for the souls of "patris mei Roberti et matris mee Emme et uxoris mee Mathildis", with the consent of "Mathildis uxor mea et fratres mei Alanus et Robertus", by charter dated to [1173/84][883].
"Andreas dominus Vitrei" donated property to Sauvigny, with the consent of "fratribus meis Alano, Roberto, Joscelino", by charter dated to [1175/84][884]. "Andreas dominus de Vitri" donated property to the Knights Templars and the Knights Hospitallers, while travelling "in Terram Sanctam", by charter dated Aug 1184[885].
Constance Duchess of Brittany relinquished her claims against the land of Vitré in view of the good service of "domino Andræ de Vitreio" by charter dated 1198[886]. "Andreas dominus Vitreii" donated property to Notre-Dame de Vitré, for the souls of "Roberti...patris mei et Alani de Dinnano fratris mei", with the consent of “Robertum fratrem meum”, by charter dated 1199[887].
An order of King John dated 7 Nov 1202 granted safe passage for a visit to "Andr de Vitreio et Emme matris sue"[888]. The Scripta de Feodis of King Philippe II, dated to the early 13th century, record “...Andreas de Vitreio...” among “milites Britanniæ”[889]. "Alanus comes, Henrici comitis filius" granted letters of assurance to "domino Andreæ de Vitreio", with the consent of "Henrico filio meo et Alici uxori eius", by charter dated 1209[890].
"André de Vitré" founded a chapter in the church of la Madeleine de Vitré, for the souls of "son frère Robert, chantre de l´église de Paris…feu Eustachie son épouse…Emma sa mère", with the consent of "son fils André…sa fille Emma", by charter dated 7 Dec 1209[891].
The Chronicon Savigniacensis Monasterii records the death "V Id Jun" in 1210 of "Andreas dominus Vitreii, filius Roberti iunioris"[892].
m firstly (divorced [1189]) as her first husband, MATHILDE de Mayenne, daughter of GEOFFROY Seigneur de Mayenne & his first wife Constance de Bretagne. "Andreas de Vitreio" donated property to Sauvigny, for the souls of "patris mei Roberti et matris mee Emme et uxoris mee Mathildis", with the consent of "Mathildis uxor mea et fratres mei Alanus et Robertus", by charter dated to [1173/84][893].
Le Baud records that André married firstly “Matilde fille Geoffroy de Mayenne et de Constance la fille du Duc Conan le Gros de Bretagne...” and the annulment of the marriage in [1189] because of the couple’s consanguinity[894]. The primary source which confirms this information has not been identified.
She married secondly Thibaut de Mathefelon. Her parentage and second marriage are confirmed by the charter dated to [1204] under which her son "Theobaldus de Mathefelon" ratified donations to Fontaine-Daniel by "dominus Juhellus de Meduana…avunculus meus"[895].
[m secondly ENOGUEN de Léon, daughter of [GUYOMAR [IV] Vicomte de Léon & his wife Nobilis ---]. Le Baud records that André married secondly “Guen sœur de Guyomar et de Hervé Seigneurs de Leon” by whom he had “une fille...Emme”[896]. The primary source which confirms this information has not been identified. It should be noted that, concerning the parentage of André de Vitré’s daughter Emma, Le Baud contradicts himself when recording the marriage in May 1207 of “Emme sa fille qu’il avoit de sa première femme” and “Allard Seigneur de Chasteaugontier et de Nogent-le-Rotroux”[897]. No primary source has been identified which confirms the name of Emma’s mother.
If Enoguen existed, the chronology suggests that she would have been much younger than her supposed brothers, presumably born towards the end of her father’s life, unless she was a widow at the time of the marriage to André de Vitré.]
m [secondly/thirdly] EUSTACHIE, daughter of --- (-before 7 Dec 1209). The primary source which confirms her parentage has not been identified.
"André de Vitré" founded a chapter in the church of la Madeleine de Vitré, for the souls of "son frère Robert, chantre de l´église de Paris…feu Eustachie son épouse…Emma sa mère", with the consent of "son fils André…sa fille Emma", by charter dated 7 Dec 1209[899].
m [thirdly/fourthly] LUCIE Paynell, daughter of FULK [II] Paynell & his second wife Agathe du Hommet. Le Baud records that André married fourthly “Luce fille de Monseigneur Foulques surnommé Paynel Seigneur de Hambie”[900]. “Dominus Fulco Paaignel, attornatus loco domine Lucie filie sue uxoris Andree de Vitreio” claimed “terciam partem hereditagii viri sui in dotem in Normannia quam in Brittania” from “domino Aelardo de Briton[aria]”, guardian of “filium antenatum eiusdem Andree”, dated to 1211[901]. "Foulques Paynel, frère de Luce Paynel, veuve d´André II de Vitré" demanded the return of the dowry of his sister, by charter dated [29 Sep] 1211[902].
André [II] & his [first/second] wife, Enoguen, had one child:
a) EMMA de Vitré (-after 1212).
