1. Alexander de Hilton of Helton or Hilton
m. Agnes de Verly (sister of Hugh de Verly)
A. Robert de Hilton, 1st Lord (d c1310)
BE1883 (Hilton of Hilton) appears to confuse this Robert de Hilton with Robert de Hilton of Swine (see below) by reporting that he was the one who married Marmaduke de Thweng. TCP (Thweng) reports that this had been suggested by Dugdale, wrongly.
m. (before 12.1255) Joan (dau of William Le/De Breton of Essex)

!PARENTS-BIRTH-SPOUSE-DEATH-HISTORY: Nelson, Glade Ian, M.A., "Hylton of Virginia, A Baronial Descent, The Virginia Genealogist, p. 3-17. Vol. and date missing. Sent to Suzanne Siders by Nancy Morebeck, 409 Dennis Drive, Vacaville, CA 95688; (707)448-3230; March 1989. Alexander was a minor in 1208, but of age about 1220. He founded the chantry of St. Lawrence in Monk Wearmouth Church for the lords of Hilton, by a charter recited by Prior Ralph of Durham (1214-1233), to which is attached the grantor's seal of Arms-a demlion passant. He occurs in the Testa de Nevil as a collector of the aid in Northumberland on the marriage of the King's sister with the Emperor in 1235. About 1241 he made certain arrangements with the convent of Swine incase he should die, probably in anticipation of departure on a journey to Jerusalem which he undertook in 1241 with the Earl of Albermarle and other nobles. No record is found of his return from this journey and it is presumed he died on the expedition.
