=== Dugald Campbell son of Neil was supporte ===
Dugald Campbell son of Neil was supporter of the King and played active part in consolidating the lands around Firth of Clyde. By 1326 Dugald was sheriff of the newly constitued sheriffdom of Argyll, centred on Tarbet in Kintyre. He further strenghthened his position through marriage to Margaret, sister of John de Glascester. (John of Glassery)
Charter, by John de Glassereth to Dugal Cambel and Margaret de Glassereth his wife of Knocnagullaran and other lands, undated, but believed to be circa 1315 Highland Papers Vol.2 . 132
abstract:
John of Glasskreth, lord of that ilk, grants, gives, and by this charter confirms to Dugald Cambel and Margaret, his spouse, sister of the granter, Knocnagullaran and the other lands therein mentioned.
To be held in free marriage by the said Dugald and Margaret and the heirs to be procreated between them.
Highland Papers ii. 138-140 An Inquest at Inverleckan on Loch Fyne on 25 August 1355 declared that John's gift of one third of Glassary to his sister Mariot and Dugald Campbell of Ardscotnish her spouse in heritage had been granted after John had become insane. This claim was made by his son on doubt with a view to recovering the part of Glassery given away by his father. That the grant was made at the time of Mariot's marriage suggests it was about 1310-1320. That would imply that he was still relatively young and in sound mind.
