Botereus," taken in Devon, 1274, abstracted in Calendar of Inquisitions Post Moretem and other Analogous Documents, vol. 2, Edward I (London: HMSO, 1906), 35, no. 47.
MAR: Calendar of the Fine Rolls, vol. 1, Edward I, A.D. 1272-1307 (London: HMSO, 1911), 455; John Maclean, The
Parochial and Family History of the Parishes of Forrabury and Minster in the County of Cornwall (Exeter: William Pollard, 1873), 56. Maclean also stated that William had a wife Dionisia, daughter of Sir William Champernon, but no evidence was provided, and none has been found.
DEATH: Inquistion post mortem of William de Botreaux, taken in Devon, 4 June 30 Edw. I [1302], abstracted in Calendar of
Inquisitions Post Mortem and other Analogous Documents, vol. 4, Edward I (London: HMSO, 1913), 61, no. 95. Date of death not given, but it was shortly before 24 May 1302 when the escheator of Devon was ordered to make an inquisition into William's lands.
OCC/TITLES: Knight, summoned for service beyond the seas with horses and arms in 1297, and for service against the Scots in 1698 and 1301.
Biography
This William Botreaux has sometimes been confused with his son of the same name, who was husband of Dionisia Champernoun.

Per this archive William Botreaux (b. 1242) "of Boscastle, Cornwall and Babington, Somerset, died before 25 Aug 1296, he was 54"; he "succeeded his father before 7 Oct 1285: Grant to William de Botereus dated at Winchester, 7 Oct 1285: ' Grant to William de Botereus, and his heirs, of free warren in all his demesne lands in Babinton and Kinemeresdon, co. Somerset, and in Mouland, co. Devon: grant also of a yearly fair at his manor of Babinton on the vigil, the feast and the morrow of St. Margaret the Virgin.
