John (II) de Gatesden, minor in 1236, was holding Ermengard's lands in Newton and Cotes, and Stanbridge in co. Bedford of the king in 1284/6. He died shortly before 11 December 1291. His heir was his daughter, Joan, aged 23; she had been married for six years to Richard Chamberlain…His tenure in Gatesden and Stanbridge indicates that he had succeeded to them on the extinction of the elder line of Gatesden represented by the elder and the younger John de Gatesden.
