Page: William Chamberlain seems to have been a cadet of the house of Chamberlain of Wickenby…The earliest notice that can be reasonably ascribed to the William Chamberlain treated here was from 1242/3 when he and Henry de Lekeburn were listed as holding lands in Reston and Carleton, co. Lincoln [so he was probably born before 1222 to have been a minor in 1242/3]…he died in or before 1284, when Joan Chamberlain was holding Petsoe during the “quo warranto” survey. In 1285/6, JOHANNA [?(BORARD) REYNES], who was the wife of William Chamberlain, claimed view of frankpledge in Petsoe. She seems to be the daughter and heir of Simon Borard, who married Thomas Reynes as her first husband; he was still alive in 1272. She is still called Joan Chamberlain in 1304 but had married before 1310 Sauer de Raundes. In 1313 she settled Petsoe on herself for life with remainder to Robert, son of her former husband William Chamberlain….
