- Life Sketch: with note: Description: The St Aubyn pedigree (Visitations of Cornwall) should be treated with some caution. The pedigree shows that Mauger St Aubyn the son of Stephen had 4 sons: Guy, Stephen, John, and son and heir Mauger. There is no evidence to support this. The pedigree seems to have been constructed by Vivian based on a fine of 1318 in which Guy St Aubyn grants the manor of Parracombe to Isabell St Aubyn with successive remainders to Stephen St Aubyn and John St Aubyn. Stephen and John were brothers but otherwise the relationships between the persons mentioned is not noted. Importantly, Vivian seems to have ignored an endorsement on the abovementioned fine "Isabella & Joan, sisters and heirs of Mauger, son of Mauger de Sancto Albino, put in their claim".
If the heirs of Mauger junr were his sisters Joan and Isabella, this means he had no brothers.
Mauger senr married Isabelle de Pydekeswell about 1249, settling a life interest in the Pydekeswell manors on Isabelle's father with reversion to himself and his heirs. He further secured his title by agreements in 1261 with Isabelle de Northwood, the daughter in law of Robert de Pidekeswell and with Idonea Munsorel who was possibly Robert's widow.
The IPM of Mauger senr shows he held the manors of Hoo, Slapton and Parracombe jointly with his wife Isabella and held in his own right the manors of Pydeckwill & Hamme.
The IPM of Mauger senior (1294) states his son and heir was Mauger, aged about 12. This confirms that Mauger the younger had no older brothers and, and if his heirs were his sisters Joan and Isabella, that means he had no younger brothers either.
It seems more likely that Guy, Stephen and John of the abovementioned fine were nephews, or possiby younger brothers, of Mauger senr.

Mauger was the son of Stephen de Sancto-Albino.
He married Isabella de Pidekeswell. They were the parents of:
Mauger, Guy, Stephen and John.
Summoned to perform Knight's service in person against the Welsh 1283.
In the parish of George Ham, where Sir Mauger de St. Albino was seated in the latter days of Henry III. "This knight and his lady are interred in the church, under a fair monument of free stone, with their representations neatly cut; and he lying in his armour makes show of large stature, something more than ordinary. The inhabitants report from their ancestors that he was of giant-like stature, and therefore named Major St. Aubyn, mistaking Major for Mauger or Maugis, a common name in those days. He was of so great and extraordinary strength that he was able to cast a huge main stone a very large length. The stone is yet there to be seen, and the throw marked out by two erected monuments yet extant, and the stone is so weighty that two strong men of this age are but able to lift it.
There was originally another effigy in Georgeham Church, the wife of Sir Mauger. It is not found there now, and the figure of Sir Mauger, although a full-sized effigy, is not uncommonly large, but the treatment is bold and effective. The animals at the feet are lions, not dogs.
