The Life Summary of Hugh Reginald
When Hugh Reginald de Crawford was born in 1220, in Loudoun, Ayrshire, Scotland, his father, Sir Hugh de Crawford, 2nd Sheriff of Ayr, was 30 and his mother, Alice Draffen, was 19. He had at least 3 sons and 1 daughter with Alicia de Dalsallock. He registered for military service in 1263. He died in 1297, in his hometown, at the age of 77, and was buried in Loudoun, Ayrshire, Scotland.
Firstborn of the family. By his father's donation, he had many lands in Clydesdale, and in right his wife, possessed, if not all, at least a good part of the barony of Dalsalloch, all which (sometime possessed by his eldest son) by marriage of his daughter, came to the Cumins, who gave to his second son, called John Craufurd, the lands of Ardach or Craufurdland, in contentation of his right to the whole as heir male to John Craufurd, his father, or to his elder brother.

Hugh Crauford, Sheriff of Ayr, had a ratification, on 31 May 1226, of a charter from Alan of Galloway, son of Roland, Constable of Scotland, of the lands of Crosby, circa 1210-15. He is designed 'Hugo filius Reginaldi' in a charter by Walter, son of Alan, the HIgh Steward of Scotland, to the monastery of Paisley, of the lands of Dalmullin, circa 1229. He had a charter of a third part of the lands of Stevenstoun in Ayrshire, which Margaret, daughter of Adam Locard, had sold to him, from the said Alan, son of Roland. Form John of Samuelstoun he had a charter of all his rights in the lands of Stevenstoun, in excambion for his rights in the lands of Cousland, in the tenement of Livingstone, circa 1246. He, with John de Cruford, was one of those Scots adhering to King Alexander II and his wife Margaret to whom Richard, Earl of Gloucester, and others were accredited by King Henry III of England on 10 August 1255. The envoys found them, however, not only gainsayers of the English, but useless even to their own King, 21 September 1255. [The Scots Peerage V:489]
