“JOHN DE MOHUN, son and heir apparent.
He married after 1245 JOAN DE FERRERS, 5th daughter of William de Ferrers, 5th Earl of Derby, by his 1st wife, Sibyl, 3rd daughter of William Marshal, Knt., 4th Earl of Pembroke (or Striguil), hereditary Master Marshal [see FERRERS 7 for her ancestry].
They had two sons,
1. John and
2. Robert.
Joan was co-heiress in 1245 to her uncle, Anselm Marshal, 9th Earl of Pembroke.
JOHN DE MOHUN died in Gascony in 1254. His body was buried in Bruton Priory, Somerset, and his heart buried at Newenham Abbey, Devon.
His widow, Joan, married (2nd) before 30 August 1256 (date of pardon for marrying without license) ROBERT D'AGUILLON, Knt., of Addington, Surrey, Stapleford and Watton at Stone, Hertfordshire, Bures, Suffolk, Fulking and Perching (in Fulking), Sussex, etc., Custodian of Arundel Castle, son and heir of William d'Agnillon, of Perching, Sussex, by Joan, daughter of Peter son of Henry Fitz Ailwin.
They had one daughter,
1. Isabel.
In 1248 he obtained a grant of free warren in his demesne lands in Addington, Surrey and Perching, Sussex. In 1264 he was allowed to enclose his manorhouse at Perching, Sussex with a ditch and a stone wall and to fortify it. His wife, Joan, died before October 1267.
He married (2nd) in 1269 MARGARET OF SAVOY, widow of Baldwin de Rivers, Knt., 7th Earl of Devon (died shortly before 13 Sept. 1262), and daughter of Thomas of Savoy, sometime Count of Flanders and Hainault, by his 2nd wife, Beatrice, daughter of Tedisio di Fiesco. She was a 1st cousin to Queen Eleanor of Provence, wife of King Henry III of England. They had no issue. In 1270 he was granted license to fortify his house at Addington, Surrey. In 1278 he claimed view of frankpledge in his manor of Stapleford, Hertfordshire.
SIR ROBERT D'AGUILLON died 15 Feb. 1285/6.
His widow, Margaret, Countess of Devon, died shortly before 14 May 1292.

The Chronicle of Tintern Abbey, Monmouthshire names "Agnes, secunda Isabella, tertia Matilda, quarta Sibilla, quinta Johanna, sexta Alianora, septima Agatha" as the seven daughters of "Willielmo de Ferrers comiti Derbiæ" and his wife "quarta filia…Willihelmi Marescalli…Sibilla", adding that "Johanna quinta filia" married "Johanni de Mohun", by whom she was mother of "Johannes de Mohun, de quo Johannes, de eo Johannes"[387]. The Annals of Ireland record that “Sibilla comitissa de Ferreys” had seven daughters (in order) “tertia, Johanna Mohun, uxor domini Johannis de Mohun, filii domini Reginaldi…”[388]. A charter dated 28 Jun 1248 records that "Margaret late Countess of Lincoln…recovered her dower out of the lands in Ireland of W[alter] Marshall late Earl of Pembroke her husband" and that the dower was "taken out of the portions of the inheritance which accrued to William de Vescy and Agnes his wife, Reginald de Moun and Isabel his wife, Matilda de Kyme, Francis de Boun and Sibil his wife, William de Vallibus and Alienor his wife, John de Moun and Joan his wife, Agatha de Ferrers in the king’s custody, and Roger de Mortimer and Matilda his wife"[389]. A charter dated 26 May 1250 records the restoration of property, granted to "Margaret Countess of Lincoln", to "William de Vescy and Agnes his wife, Reginald de Moun and Isabel his wife, William de Fortibus and Matilda his wife, Francis de Boun and Sibil his wife, William de Vallibus and Alienor his wife, John de Moun and Joan his wife, Agatha de Ferrers in the king’s custody, Roger de Mortimer and Matilda his wife, and William de Cantilupe and Eva his wife"[390].

He [John de Mohun] married Joan, 5th daughter of William (DE FERRERS),EARL OF DERBY, younger sister of his stepmother and coheir of theirmother. He was living 29 July 1253, but died v.p., 1253-54, in Gascony.His heart was buried at Newenham Abbey, and his body at Bruton. Hiswidow's marriage was granted to Piers de Chauvent, but bought of him for200 marks by Sir Robert AGUILLON, whom she married in or before August1256.
