  The PARKERS of Browsholme (pronounced Brewsom) are descended from Peter de Alcancotes, Colone in the mid 13th Century.
  
  The succession went from his son Adam Alcancotes, living in 1311, to Adam's son Richard le Parker of Trawden, then to his son Edmund le Parker park-keeper of Radholme Laund, near Browsholme, one of the great deer parks in the Forest of Bowland. From 1380 his sons, Richard and John had a lease of the vaccary, or cow pasture, of Browsholme; it is from this time that the family took the name of Parker in recognition of their office as park-keepers of the Forest of Bowland. Browsholme since that period has been owned and lived in by the descendents of Richard, who built the first house on the present site at Nether Browsholme.
  
  The present Hall was built in 1507 by Edmund, the grandson of Richard, following the grant of a new lease of Browsholme and marriage to Elizabeth the heiress of John Redmayne. Parker family genealogical history is well documented, both before and after Edmund, and describes the connections to many families including, Chadderton, Tempest, Sunderland, Buller, Fleming, Lister, Blakey and Barkley
