=== Life Sketch ===
Walter Ledet was born in or after 1220 (he was not of legal age on 25 October, 1241).
Walter was the son and heir of Wischard Ledet and his wife, Mary and Wischard was the son and heir of Christiana Ledet, and her husband Henry.
Walter was the father of two daughters:
1.) a daughter, the older coheir of her great-grandparents, Christiana Ledet, and her husband, Henry de Braybroc, aged 16 in 1272;
2.) Christiana Ledet, the younger coheir of her great-grandparents, Christiana Ledet, and her husband, Henry de Braybroc, aged 15 in 1272;
On 25 October, 1241, because the king [Henry III] had heard by an inspection of the charter that John, formerly the king, his father, made for Henry of Braybrooke concerning the manor of Corby, which Wischard Ledet […] held of the king in socage, he ordered the sheriff of Northamptonshire that, having accepted security from Mary [sic], the widow of Wischard, for £10 [for the relief of Walter], son and heir of Wischard, he was to cause her to have full seisin of the aforesaid manor with appurtenances until the legal age of the heir, Walter.
An Inquisition for Henry de Braybroc was taken in Northamptonshire on an unknown date, which found that the two daughters of Walter Ledet, aged 12 and 11, were Henry's heirs, and Henry held Coreby manor in fee and inheritance and by the king's charter, which was the king's ancient demesne before he gave it to Henry and his heirs, who held it at fee farm for 10l. yearly. It was in the king's hands because Robert Peche, who was in the Isle of Ely with the disinherited, had the wardship of the manor through his wife, the widow of Walter Ledet with whom she had two daughters who are the heirs of Coreby manor.
On 8 September, 55 Henry III [1271], a writ regarding Christiana Ledet, late the wife of Henry [Ledet] instigated an Inquisition on Monday before St Mark the Evangelist, 56 Henry III [1272], [defective], which found [ Wyscard their son was ?] the next heir of the said Henry and Christiana, and the said Wyscard begot a son named W(al ?) ... firstborn begot two daughters who are next heirs of the said Henry and Christiana Ledet ... and Christiana the younger, aged 15; and Christiana held in Bedford:
Sutton and Potton manors, held of Sir Robert [de Brus]. The manor of Sutton was held of the predecessors of the said Robert de Brus, and one Wyscard Ledet held the said ... Robert de Braybroc, and he freed the manor of Sutton from Jewry and gave it to Henry his son and Christiana daughter of the said ... and it is defended for ½ knight's fee against the lords of the fee; and the manor of Potton is held of the same fee by ex(change) ... for Badewe and Toteham in co. Hertford (sic); and the said manors of Sutton and Potton are united ...
Cadebury manor, held by the said Christiana in dower of the barony of Eton; and she was dowered by Wyscard her son.
