Ada married, as her first husband Richard de Lucy. They were the parents of Amabel de Lucy, who married the Lambert de Multon, the son of Ada's second husband, thomas de Multon of Multon. 190

  Richard de Lucy married (1200-1204) Ada, eldest daughter and coheir of Hugh de Morville, forester of Cumberland and lord of the Border barony of Burgh. He died s.p.m., early in 1213, and was buried in the priory of St. Bees. Before 10 March 1217/18, his widow had married Thomas de Multon, of Multon, near Spalding, who, within a few months of the death of Richard de Lucy, had offered 1,000 marks for the custody and marriage of his daughters and heirs; these two daughters he married to his two sons by a former marriage, vix. Amabel, the elder, to his son Lambert, and Alice, the younger, to his son Alan de Multon. Ada, the relict of Richard dc Lucy, was living in 1230.

  • Background Information. 1380
  The barony of Burgh by Sands was carried successively in marriage to Richard de Lucy of Egremont and Thomas de Multon by Ada, the elder daughter of Hugh de Morvill. Richard, the first husband of Ada, was alive on 25 June, 12 12, when the report of the great inquest of knights' fees in Cumberland was delivered into the Exchequer [V. C. H. Cumb., i. 141-2], but he had died before 11 July, 1213, when Ada his widow paid a fine for having her inheritance and dower out of her deceased husband's lands [Rot. de Oblat., pp. 474-5]. Richard de Lucy left two daughters Amabil and Alice as his co-heirs. Thomas de Multon obtained the guardianship of Richard's lands and daughters in 1213 and followed up the advantage by marrying the widow without the King's leave. For this act the wardship of Egremont was taken from him and delivered to another, but he was rein stated in 1218 in the custody of Coplande with the castle (castro) of Egremunde and of all Ada's lands [Pat. Rolls, 1216-25, pp. 165-6]. In a few years his sons, Lambert and Alan, were married to Richard's two daughters Amabil and Alice respectively, among whom the Lucy inheritance was apportioned. Thomas de Multon, who died in 1240, is described by M. Paris [Chron. Majora, iv. 49] as a knight of experience in warlike feats and a man abounding in possessions and well skilled in the law.
