“[John Butler’s] birth date is unknown, and can only be guessed at based upon his marriage date of 1599. His wife was christened in 1576, so assuming that he was somewhat older than his wife, it can be estimated that John was born in perhaps 1570. “

“…The Roxwell Parish register records his marriage on 27 December, 1599 to Jane, the daughter and co-heiress of Edward Elliot of Newland Hall, Esquire. Jane was baptized in the same register on 22 June 1576.”

1. Captain John Butler, baptized 07 December, 1600 at Roxwell, Essex. Not known to have ever married. Mentioned in his cousin Sir John Butler’s will in 1643. Captain Butler died in the Isle of Kent, Maryland in 1642.
2. Thomas Butler, married Joan Christopher, widow of Nicolas Mountstephen at St. Magnus the Martyr, London 16 January 1625/6. Mentioned in his cousin Sir John Butler’s will in 1634. Died after February 1646 at Kent Island, Maryland.
3. Jane Butler.

5. Elizabeth Butler born before 1612. Married before April 1638 the honorable Colonel William Claiborne. Died after 1668 in Virginia.
