=== Life Sketch ===
Bethoc of Rowcastle was the wife of Ranulf (also Randulf), son of Dunegal, of Dumfriesshire.
Bethoc is believed to have been the owner of Rowcastle in Bedrule. She and her husband made grants to the church in Jedburgh in 1160. From this grant we know that they married sometime before 1160. And from this we know that Bethoc was born in 1147 or before, for she would have been at least 12 years old when she married.
Bethoc's parentage is not known with certainty, however, it is speculated that she was of the Comyn Family. Bedrule is known to have been in possession of the family of Comyn until the time of Bruce, it is theorized that she was a Comyn daughter and that Rowcastle was her dower property, marriage portion.
Bethoc are known to be the parents of:
- Thomas Randolph (Ranulfsson), Sheriff of Dumfriesshire in 1237, died 1262.
- may also have had a daughter who married Reginald, Lord of the Isles.
It is not known when Bethoc or her husband died. Their son Thomas had succeeded by 1222.
