=== Henry Lovel did not hold Castle Cary in ===
Henry Lovel did not hold Castle Cary in right of his wife. According to CP she was possibly an "heiress or coheiress of the grantee of the escheated estates of Robert de Bampton". He is in my ancestry and held Bampton (his caput) and Cary in 1236 when he gathered a band of thugs and ravaged the neighboring area, at which point King Stephen summoned him to court to answer charges of rebellion and stripped him of his holdings. So I think that CP is suggesting thatAlice was a daughter of whoever Stephen gave Bampton's holdings to, but that the Lovel family already held Castle Cary in 1138 (which they may have held evenbefore that, with Robert de Bampton being the leige lord).
