• History: with note: Description: The history of Wales There are some family historians who like to think that this lady is the daughter of King Gruffudd ap Llewelyn, the first king of Wales. It's tempting but completely untrue. This king's history is well recorded and the facts do not support him having any daughter called Ann. Ap Gruffud simply means 'of Gruffud'. This is where she came from and does not tell us anything about her parentage. There are online genealogies which make claims to Welsh royalty but a proper study with the original sources and respected academic studies demonstrates that there is no connection, not even a possible connection.
