=== Galfridus, styled Dominus Glafridus de C ===
Galfridus, styled Dominus Glafridus de Crawford, frequently occurs amont the magnates ScotiƦ, as a witness ot the charters of King William inter 1170 et 1190. He married the sister of John le Scot, earl of Chester, and niece of the king. She was the daughter of David earl of Huntingdon, second son of David the First of Scotland by his queen Maud. He is termed kinsman by John le Scot earl of Chester, nephew of the king, in a charter quoted by George Crawford, along with John le Scot's two natural brothers, where they are all styled fratribus, in accordance with the practice of that age in the use of this term. ___________________________
Galfridus de Crawford, a man of mark and distinction in the reign of Malcolm IV and King William the Lion, who succeeded Malcolm in 1165. This Galfridus was a witness to a charter of Roger, bishop of St Andrews, concerning the freedom and independency of the monastery of Kelso, 1187. He was a witness also to another charter of the same bishop to the monastery of Coldingham, inter 1189 et 1202, in which last year the bishop died.
In the time of King William, Galfridus is found frequently witnessing the pious deeds of this prince to the religions of Arbroath and seems to have had some relation to the Court under that King. [The Crawfords in America p11]
