  Alice Fitz Adam (born in Chester) was born in 1178 to Hugh De Meschines and Bertrade De Meschines (born Montfort). Hugh was born in 1145, in Kevelioc, Monmouthshire, Wales. Bertrade was born in 1145, in Montfort Sur Risle, Eure, Normandy, France.
  
  It might be emphasized that Amice de Kevelioc was a natural daughter of Sir Hugh. I mention this in particular because attempts have been made to prove she was legitimate. -- Robert Bowman (Edited)
  
  The above is an understatement. This represents to medieval English genealogy what Scrope/Grosvenour represents to heraldry. It was the subject of a longstanding public debate between two giants in the field at the time.   That she was not an heir of her father does not mean she was illegitimate. Her four half sisters were actually heirs to their brother, so she of the half-blood could not have been. Amicia may we have been the daughter of Hugh's first, but unknown wife.
