=== Alan de Graham is designed 'frater Petri ===
Alan de Graham is designed 'frater Petri de Graham' in his brother's charter of Balnebuth to the Abbey of Newbattle. Probably through a misreading in an early Macfarlane copy of this charter, Douglas names the brother of Peter, and presumed ancestor of the noble family of MOntrose, Joh, and confounds him with the John above mentioned, who obviously belongs to a later generation, and this has been followed by all subsequent Peerage writers.
