  BIRTH: "Simon filius Adae" [Simon son of Adam] held a knight's fee in Hertfordshire in 1166 (Hubert Hall, Red Book of the Exchequer, 3 vols. [London : Printed for H. M. Stationery Off., by Eyre and Spottiswoode, 1896], 1:365. He was called the grandfather of Adam fitz William in a 1225 court case involving the advowson of the church at Graveley, Herts. (C. A. F.
