- Notes:
Dear Michael:
Received your letter and I wish to thank you for forwarding it. I plan
to make copies for mom and I'm sure she will enjoy them. Mary (called May)
Dean Betterton was my maternal grandmother [one of the reasons I was called
Mary; my dad's mother was also]. She was all of about 5' tall. Every year,
she'd read a text of some sort--one year it was physics, another classical
civilization, etc. She read the Wall Street Journal every morning. Kept her
mind sharp. She always tried to keep herself well dressed and her house and
yard in order. May started school when she was 4 and by the time shewas 16,
she had her own one room school to teach.
Wishing you a happy holiday. The archives in Ohio did not have an
obituary on file for Hugh Dean. I got a copy of the 1860 and 1870 census for
the family if you are interested. Here's to great genealogical researching
in 2001!
Your cousin,
Mary Redline
