This family derives its name from Cailly( Cailleum ) a place a few miles north - east of Rouen , and in the Ballivium Caleti or bailwick of Caux in Normandy. Here there was a fortress called Castelluma Caillei which was held by the baronial tenure, as the "Honour (or barony) de Cailly"
