  The Chabot family originates from Bas-Poitou, where its name is found at the start of the 11th century. Some authors trace - but without proof - the Chabot filiation to a certain Pierre Chabot (circa 965 - circa 1030), who would have been the son of William IV of Aquitaine "le Fier à Bras" (937-03 / 04/995 ), Duke of Aquitaine and Count of Poitiers.
