CATHERINE de Norwich, daughter of WALTER de Norwich & his wife --- (-28 Jan 1382). “Michael de la Pole
=== About Catherine of Norwich ===
https://archive.org/details/historyofhullann00gent/page/66/mode/2up?q=Norwich
"ABOUT the Year of Christ, 1330. there was a flourishing Town, call'd Ravensrod, or Ravenspuru, situated near the mouth of Humber ; where Trade had been carry'd on successfully for a long Series of Time. Herein dwelt a most skilful rich Merchant, called William de la Pole, (the 2d Son of a Knight of that Name) who marry'd KATHERINE, the Daughter of Sir JOHN NORWICH, Kt. by whom he had 3 Children : Michael, Margaret, and Edmund."
Original of this was written in 1735 by Thomas Gent. Notice that in this Catherine's father is John of Norwich not Walter.
=== Catharine de Breus ===
The origins of this lady have only become known in the last few years. Previously she has been said to be the wife of William de la Pole, or the wife of Michael de la Pole, or many others. The facts we know about this lady are as follows.
1. Her married name was Breus [See Calendar of Inquisition post mortems CIPM Vol 14 : p43-45
2. Her father was Thomas Norwico [same inquisition]
3. She was born about 1340. [same inquisition].
4. She took the habit of religion and had no any surviving children [See Calendar of Inquisition Post Mortem CIPM Vol 15 ;p87-90]
5. She inherited amongst others the manors of Sculthorp and Great Massingham.
5. She inherited the manor of Kimberly from her kin Roger Norwich.
6. She conveyed the manors of Sculthorp and Great Massingham to a number of trustees. [Calendar of Patent Rolls 1375-77 p78; Calendar of Patent Rolls 1377-1380 p31]
7. in 1357 A Katerina the former wife of Richard de Brewes the son of Sir Richard de Brewes received the manor of Wingfield apparently as her dower. [Suffolk feet of fines 31/32 Edw. III no. 40. ]
8. in 1378 this Katerina conveyed the manor of Wingfield for a period of 5 years to Michael de la Pole [her nephew by marriage] and afterwards to her trustees. [Suffolk of Feet of Fines 1 Richard 11 No. 12.
9. The majority of the trustees mentioned in the above mentioned conveyances [8] and [6] are the same.
10. One of trustees mentioned in both conveyances is Walter a vicar of the church of the manor Kimberle which she owned.
It is no doubt that Katerina de Norwich daughter of Thomas Norwico married Richard the son of Sir Richard de Brewes of Stradebrok and Wingfield.
The Katherine who married Wiiliam de la Pole as her second husband, was not the daughter of this Walter de Norwich.
As John Watson pointed out in a post on Society Genealogy.Medieval, this was not the case: "Concerning Katherine wife of William de la Pole. Complete Peerage has this to say: 'Dugdale calls her simply Katharine but Frost, says that she was sister of Sir John Norwich. If that had been so, she must have been coheir (in her issue) with Margaret, wife of Robert de Ufford, Earl of Suffolk, which she certainly was not!" [Complete Peerage, Vol. 12/1, p. 347, note (m)}
The error making her the daughter of this Walter de Norwich was corrected in Complete Peerage, Vol. XIV, p. 573.
