SIR WILLIAM OLIPHANT OF ABERDALGIE, retoured heir to his father in certain lands in 1417 and was witness to a charter by Walter Stewart, Earl of Atholl and Caithness, acting in his capacity as Tutor to Malise Graham, Earl of Strathearn, confirming an earlier charter by Malcolm of Drummond of Concraig of the lands of Tullichrawn in favour of Donald, son of Gilbert, on 27 August, 1421.1 He one of the Scots Barons sent to England in 1424 to convey home King James I. and was retained as a hostage on the King’s release until the end of 1425. He m. Christian, daughter of Sir John Stewart of Innermeath, Lord of Lorn, (she was widow of James Dundas, of that Ilk), and was father of,
1. Sir John Oliphant, of Aberdalgie. 2. Isabel Oliphant, m. Sir John Scrimgeour, Constable of Dundee, and had issue.

Sir William Oliphant was retoured heir of Sir John, his father, in the lands of Gallery and others in 1417. He witnessed a charter 27 August 1421. He was sent to England early in 1424 as one of the hostages for the payment of the ransom of James I on that King's release from captivity. He was still detained 3 December 1425, after which there is no further record of him. [The Scots Peerage VI:538]
