=== Research Notes on Margaret Borough ===
"Margaret Borough" is listed in the book "History of the Township and Family of Saltmarshe in the East Riding of Yorkshire" by Colonel Philip Saltmarshe (1853-1941), which was "Printed for Private Circulation Only by Ben Johnson and Company, Yorkshire", England in 1910. This book states the following in the "Key Pedigree of the Senior Branch of the [Saltmarshe] Family" (page 83): "John Saltmarshe [was the son of "Edward Saltmarshe (II)" and "Elena d. of John Portington"] b. 1455. m. 1483. ob.1513. = Margarent d. of William Borough."
"Margaret Borough" is described in the book "History of the Township and Family of Saltmarshe in the East Riding of Yorkshire" by Colonel Philip Saltmarshe (1853-1941), which was "Printed for Private Circulation Only by Ben Johnson and Company, Yorkshire", England, in 1910. This book states the followiing in Chapter VIII: "John Saltmarshe, of Saltmarshe and Thorganby, the first mentioned in the Heralds' records, was the eldest son and heir of Edward Saltmarshe (II.), and was born, at Thorganby probably, in 1455 [as he was 26 years old at the death of his father Edward in 1481]. At the death of his father he succeeded to the family estates subject to the life interest which his brothers Elnard and Thomas had in the property at Maunby and Newton Morrell respectively. In his youth it is not unlikely he resided at one of the North Riding manors, the proximity of which to Borough Hall probably brought about the marriage with the owner's daughter. He espoused in 1483 Margaret, daughter of William Borough of Borough, by Maude his wife, daughter of Roger Lassells of Sowerby." (Note: According to other heraldic visitation-based pedigrees, Maude Lassells was the wife of William Borough's grandfather, also named William Borough (1371-1442.)
"Margaret Borough" is listed among the ancestors and descendants of the "Borough" family of Brough near Catterick, Yorkshire, in the Family Pedigree of "Borough" that appears in the "The Visitation of Yorkshire, in the Years 1563 and 1564" by William Flower (FHL Book # British, 942, B4h, v.16, pages 26-27), and which was subsequently published by The Harleian Society and is online at: https://dcms.lds.org/delivery/DeliveryManagerServlet?dps_pid=IE85066. This pedigree of the "Borough" family presents the following quoted information in reference to Generation 7--from William Borowgh and Elisabeth Conyers: "William Bowrough son & heyr of William = Cyssely doughter to Thomas Metfalff of Nappa."; "Margaret."; "Lucia nupta Johanni Keterychke."; "Margery; Jone; Margaret - all dyed sans issu."; "Anna nupta Johanni Walden"; "2. Crystofer Bowrough 2 son to William and brother to William. = Agnes doter & heyr of John Marton of Marton in Clyveland in com. Ebor."
Heraldic Note: The Saltmarshe Chapel in the Minster Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Howden, Yorkshire, contains a beautiful glass window pane which displays a vertically divided ("party per pale") colored shield that displays the "Saltmarsh" arms and the "Brugh" arms (that shows five swans).
