  Constance of Castile (1354 – June 1394) was claimant of the Castilian throne after the death of her father Pedro the Cruel. She married, at Roquefort, near Bordeaux, Guienne, on 21 September 1371, John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, third son of Edward III of England and Philippa of Hainault, as his second wife.
  
  This was the way for Gaunt to obtain a kingdom of his own (he had also pursued Scotland), England having already many heirs with higher rights than his. John of Gaunt acted as King Consort, but was unsuccessful in obtaining Castile. Their daughter Catalina was married to the claimant of the Trastamara line, Henry III of Castile, thus uniting these two rival claims.

(El matrimonio llegó a celebrarse en 1378 y fueron padres, entre otros, de Enrique de Villena el nigromántico, maestre de la Orden de Calatrava, conde de Cangas y Tineo que casó con María de Albornoz, señora del Infantado.) Constanza Enríquez de Castilla. Su padre no menciona el nombre de su madre. Dice que en esa fecha, 1374, estaba desposada con el infante Dionisio de Portugal (1354-1397), aunque finalmente contrajo matrimonio con el hermano de éste, el infante Juan de Portugal (1349-1387). Heredó la villa de Alba de Tormes, de la que fue I señora. Fernando Enríquez de Castilla (1365-1438). Lo menciona su padre como hijo de Beatriz Fernández. María de Castilla (1375-c.1393), hija de Beatriz Fernández. Contrajo matrimonio con Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, X señor de Mendoza, almirante de Castilla y Mayordomo mayor del rey Juan II de Castilla. Fadrique de Castilla y Ponce de León (¿1360?-1394), hijo de Beatriz Ponce de León y Jérica. Fue nombrado por su padre duque de Benavente. Murió en prisión en Almodóvar del Río en 1394. Contrajo matrimonio con Leonor Sánchez de Castilla, hija ilegítima de Sancho de Castilla, conde de Alburquerque. Beatriz de Castilla y Ponce de León (¿?-1409), hija de Beatriz Ponce de León y Jérica, I señora de Niebla, quien contrajo matrimonio en 1370 ó 1371 con Juan Alonso Pérez de Guzmán y Osorio, IV señor de Sanlúcar de Barrameda y I conde de Niebla; posteriormente profesó como religiosa en el monasterio de San Clemente de Sevilla, donde fue sepultada. (Su padre no lo menciona en su testamento otorgado en 1374) Fue sepultado en la Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba. Pedro Enríquez de Castilla (¿?-1366). Fue sepultado en la Catedral de Segovia. Isabel Enríquez de Castilla (¿?-c.1419), hija de Juana de Cárcamo. Contrajo matrimonio con Gonzalo Núñez de Guzmán, aunque el matrimonio fue disuelto por el Papa Clemente VII. Posteriormente ingresó en el monasterio de Santa Clara la Real de Toledo, en el que llegó a ser abadesa y fue sepultada. Inés Enríquez de Castilla (¿?-c.1443), hija de Juana de Cárcamo. Fue abadesa del monasterio de Santa Clara la Real de Toledo, en el que fue sepultada. ( Ambas hermanas figuran en la documentación de dicho monasterio, recibiendo varias mercedes de su tío el rey Juan I de Castilla, así como del rey Enrique III de Castilla) Juana Enríquez de Castilla, hija de Juana, señora de Cifuentes, señora de Cifuentes. Contrajo matrimonio con el infante Dionisio de Portugal (1354-1397), hijo de Pedro I de Portugal y de Inés de Castro, y fue sepultada en el monasterio de Guadalupe. (Del Arco y Garay, 1954, p. 310)

Ayala´s Crónica de Pedro I records that the king heard news in Jul 1354 of the birth of “una fija de Doña Maria de Padilla...Doña Constanza” in "la villa de Castro Xeriz," adding that she later married "el Duque de Alencastre" and that their daughter "la Reyna Doña Catalina...es agora muger del Rey Don Enrique." Ayala's Crónica de Pedro I records that, after the death of their brother Alfonso, the right of the king´s three daughters "para heredar los Regnos de Castilla é de Leon, cada una en sucesion de la otra" was recognized in early 1363. A late 15th century/early 16th century manuscript records that "Johannes Gaunt Dux Lancastrie et quartus filius Edward III" married secondly "Constanciam filiam regis Hispaniarum." She succeeded her father in 1369 as de iure Queen of Castile. m (Roquefort, Guyenne 21 Sep 1371) as his second wife, JOHN of Gaunt Duke of Lancaster, son of EDWARD III King of England & his wife Philippa de Hainaut (St Bavon’s Abbey, Ghent [Feb/Mar] 1340-[Leicester Castle or Ely Place, Holborn, London] 3/4 Feb 1399, bur Old St Paul’s Cathedral, London). He claimed the throne of Castile by right of his wife.
