The Rich's were originally from Hampshire, when John la Rich of Rich's Place flourished about the reign of Edward III and left issue John la Rich of Rich's PLace. He had two sons Richard and William. His heir Richard Rich of London, esquire, was a mercer who was a person of note in his time, being one of the sheriffs of the citty in 1441. He founded alms-houses in Hodson, Hertfordshire in 1442. He was likewise executor to the will of Richard Aldres, esquire, of Newhall in Boreham, Essex, dated 1446.
