  Sir Thomas Sheffield (1295-1348) and Agnes FitzAlan (1298-1348)
  
  Agnes was born in 1298 in her father’s barony of Bedale, North Yorkshire.
  She was 8 years old when she was betrothed in May 1306 to Sir Miles Stapleton of Carlton, Yorkshire, and was married before December 1317. Sir Miles was dead by June 1324, leaving Agnes, now 26, free to make her second marriage to Sir Thomas Sheffield.
  Having produced the necessary heirs for Bedale through her first marriage, it is likely that her second marriage was a love match.
  Although cited as a co-heiress, the Barony of Bedale, which fell to Agnes and her sister Katherine, on the death of her father, was eventually inherited by the son of Sir Miles Stapleton, and was not relevant to the Sheffield marriage.
  Her second marriage is recorded as to ‘Sir Thomas de Sheffeld of Sheffield, Wadsley Owlerton etc. of Co. Yorks.’
  Their sons are given in ‘male tail’ order Thomas, John, and William
