Also Known As:
"de Neufmarché"
Birthdate:
1079 (84)
Birthplace:
Eardisley, Herefordshire, England
Death:
January 4, 1163 (84)
Breconshire, , Wales
Immediate Family:
Daughter of Osbern Fitz Richard, 2nd Baron of Burford and Nest ferch Gruffydd
Wife of Bernard de Neufmarche, Lord of Brecon
Mother of Sybil de Neufmarché; Mahel de Neufmarché; Adam de Neufmarché; Ivo de Neufmarché and William de Neufmarché
Sister of Sir Simon le Scrope; Walter le Scrope; Hugh Fitz Osbern, 3d baron of Burford and Turstin Fitz Osbern
Update June 24 2018: Changed name from Nest verch Osbern to Agnes FitzRichard. According to "The Normans in South Wales, 1070-1171" it says "It may be well to clear up some misconceptions concerning the identity of Bernard's wife. The Duchess of Cleveland (The Battle Abbey Roll: with some account of the Norman Lineages, II, 352-353) states that Bernard had two wives, the latter being Nest, daughter of Llewlyn ap Gruffydd." However, other researchers refuted this, and concluded that his only wife was Agnes, daughter of Osbern and Nest, making Nest his mother-in-law, not his wife.

=== Background information concerning Nesta, wife of Bernard de Neufmarche (Newmarch) ===
There appears to be considerable confusion in various records, particularly private records, concerning the true identity of Nesta, wife of Bernard de Neufmarche. The Battle Abbey Roll reports that Nesta, wife of Bernard de Neufmarche, is the daughter of Griffin (Gruffydd) ap Llewelyn, King of Gwynedd and Powys) [Wales](see copy in Memories section). Burke's Dormant, Abeyant, Forfeited and Extinct Peerages appears to agree, reporting Nesta is the daughter of Gruffydd ap Llewelyn (see copy in the Memories section). The Annuals and Antiquities also reports Nesta is the daughter of Gruffydd ap Llewelyn (see copy in the Memories section). However, other records, particularly British History Online: Wales: Brecknockshire, (see copy in the Memories section) reports Nesta is the granddaughter of Gruffydd ab Llewelyn. Some entries in Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia, report Nesta, wife of Bernard de Neufmarche, is both the daughter and granddaughter of Gruffydd ab Llewelyn (see examples in the Memories section).
The confusion seems to stem from the fact there were two woman named Nesta of the time frame, mother and daughter. Nesta's mother is also named Nesta and is most likely the Nesta who is the daughter of Gruffydd ab Llewelyn. The mother Nesta first married Trahaearn ap Caradog and they reportedly had seven children. She married secondly Osbern FitzRichard and they had a daughter named Nesta, who is the Nesta married to Bernard de Neufmarche and is thus a granddaughter of Gruffydd ab Llewelyn.
Comparing estimated dates of birth and known dates of historical events, Nesta, the wife of Bernard de Neufmarche, is too young to be the daughter of Gruffydd ab Llewelyn, who reportedly died in 1063 before the Conquest of England by William the Conqueror, and must, therefore, be the granddaughter although many records (noted above) report she is the daughter of Gruffydd ab Llewelyn.
