Both Cokayne's Complete Peerage and Burke's Dormant and Extinct tomes state that Sir Richard Lovel married Muriel De Soules, daughter of Sir John De Soules. Cokayne adds that her mother was Hawise FitzAlan, sister of the steward of Scotland, Sir James FitzAlan, later surnamed Stewart. Also he states that Sir John De Soules was Sir Richard Lovel's guardian, when he was a minor. The LDS have used Bank's work, whereby he shows her as Muriel Douglas erroneously, unless Sir Richard Lovel married 2ndly. His wife did die in 1318, whereas he did not expire until 1351. Considering the number of times that spouses remarried not just once, but twice and more, then possibly he did take Muriel Douglas as his wife. Cokayne mentions nothing in his extensive footnotes, since the son and heir died without surviving male issue.
